GNWT Resources during COVID-19

For Individuals:
-Income Assistance – Provides financial assistance to help meet basic and enhanced needs.
-Additional support in the form of a one-time payment of $500 for single recipient or $1000 for households to prepare for 14 day isolation period.
-Transitional Rent Supplement Program (TRSP) – Financial assistance for people paying more than 30% of their income on rent.
-Up to $500 a month towards rent.
-Was sun-setting to be replaced by another program, but is back for the time being.
-Securing Assistance for Emergencies (SAFE) – Emergency repair fund for homeowners
-Homelessness Assistance Fund (HAF) – One time emergency funding for housing related crisis.
-Workers Safety Compensation Commission (WSCC) – Excellent tools for risk assessment, daily developments. -If you have concerns about your workplace, contact them immediately.
-Student Financial Assistance (SFA) – All loans on hold.
-YK Community Foundation - Increased number of scholarships to help students who will be unable to work. Application deadline May 15.
-NWT Power Corp – Collections, load limiters and disconnections postponed.
-Legal Aid – Continued service by telephone and email.
-Health and Social Services Virtual Care – Continue to meet with healthcare professionals and make appointments through virtual care.
For Businesses:
-The GNWT is pausing most collections.
-Business Development and Investment Corporation (BDIC)
-Deferred Loan Payments: Reduce or defer up to three months of loan payments.
-Working Capital Loans: Low interest loans. -Deadline for first round of applications is March 31st
-Workers Safety Compensation and Commission (WSCC)
-Employer fees now due May 1st
-Performing risk assessments.
-Northwest Territories Power Corp (NTCP)
-Remove load limiters.
-Pause collection efforts.
-Economic Relief and Growth Advisory Group – ITI working group to assess programs, services and supports during the COVID-19 crises.
-GNWT Arts Funding - Changes in timelines and improved flexibility for working artists.
